WoW Rogue Leveling Guide: Basics
Before we talk about our WoW Rogue Leveling Guide, lets clarify some basics:
Description
@Copyright WoW Leveling Guide 2012
Acting in the shadows and skilled at making themselves invisible, Rogues of Azeroth are most comfortable when they are acting in the background. Turning events in their favor and acting only when advantage is greatest: this is where the Rogues excel. With their mastery of concealment and disguise, they have no problem finding work as thieves, cutthroats, spies or assassins. These are a few skills available to rogues.
Rogue is a complicated, but a fun class to play. It is impossible to be effective without learning the basics of this class. There is much to understand, but players can master the Rogue with knowledge and experience or easily by using the top-rated WoW Rogue Leveling Guide.
Rogues use daggers by default. However, you can carry a sword if you want to be different. You can even build both skills and use the best, depending on the weapon you have. At level 10 you can wield two weapons at once.
Rogues can also use jet. Projectile weapons such as daggers are recommended because they don’t require a quiver. However, bows and crossbows will do generally more damage. You can also use throwing weapons to do some damage to the monster before it reaches you. They can also be used to finish the escaping monsters.

WoW Rogue Leveling Guide: Basic Infos
- Races: Blood Elf, Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Orc, Dead Alive, Troll and Gnome.
- Standard Bars: Health / Energy.
- Allowable Equipment: Cloth, leather.
- Allowable Weapons: Daggers, jet weapons, swords (with training), Bows (with training), Crossbows (with training), hammers (with training), Guns (with training).
As for attributes, Rogue needs to develop strength, but also agility. This improves the armor and the chances of making a critical hit. Agility improves, like the strength, the power of attacks with melee weapons. So, do not hesitate to find the items that improve agility.
The Rogue requires energy to use his skills, like the Mage who needs mana, for example. The energy is accumulated over time, but you cannot increase it, except by using the “Vigor” talent. You have to know that there are potions that can restore all of your energy. Finally, note that the skills are less energy expensive when missed or blocked.

Be stealthy first!
Stealth is the ability to avoid detection by the enemy. This is different from invisibility. When something is stealthy, it can still be seen. However, stealthy players become clear or transparent and blend with the background, making them hard to spot. Your success at remaining undetected depends on your Stealth skill’s level, the direction of the monster, and its proximity.
By being stealthy, you can slip behind the monsters to use various skills such as Sab, Backstab and Ambush. Without “Stealth”, the monster would turn to attack you. Try to anticipate the movements of the monsters and then sneak behind them at the right time. This becomes much easier once you have level-2 of Stealth which allows you to move faster.
Camouflage is also very useful to attract monsters. The character can activate the ability, slip to the enemy without attacking the monsters around and draw the enemy into a clean area for combat. The Rogue will become more effective as “stealth” level up.
Assassination Skills
This category comprises some skills giving combo’s points (CP). To unleash the power of combos, just run a final attack. After winning your first CP, look at the name of the monster in the middle of the screen. To the right of the portrait you’ll see an indicator of CPs. It tells you that you have a CP. By watching this indicator you can see how many CPs you have stored and so you can release them with a final attack. Analyze those final attacks to see how many CPs are required for a particular effect.
Combat Skills
Here we find many abilities which give CP. For example you can use “Gouge” to stun a monster during a battle and then execute a “Backstab”. You will need enough energy to make this work because the monster may wake up before you can make your move. You can also use “Sinister Strike” several times to accumulate CP.
Lockpicking
The Rogues have a natural talent in lockpicking. You can improve this skill on locked chests. You can also create locks for training or to buy from engineers to develop this skill faster. Also, you can offer your services and open locked chests of other players for free to improve this skill.

Poisons Skills
The Rogue has the unique ability to create and apply special poisons to weapons. Poisoning can be learned at level 20 (try to use this WoW Rogue Leveling Guideto get to this level in one day) .
To create poisons you will need to buy empty vials and the various ingredients of every recipe. At higher levels, the rogue can use powerful poisons. There are even extremely powerful formulas that require rare ingredients available all over the world.
“Crippling Poison”, which can slow the speed of an enemy, is very effective against monsters that run when they are about to die. This makes the Rogue very useful in groups. Rogues may also apply poisons to weapons of other players. This is done via the trade screen in the same manner as for Enchant. The rogue can sell the service to other players or offer it as a gesture of friendship.
Subtlety Skills
This category covers a range of skills useful to Rogues. The sprint is, for example, useful in two situations: If too many monsters come at you at once, or if a monster is particularly aggressive, you can run away from danger. The second use of Sprint is a short burst of speed while traveling. You can also use it to beat other players in foot races. You will most likely do timed quests in which Sprint will be very useful. Feel free to put Sprint in the action bar to use it quickly.
Pick Pocket allows you to turn to empty the pockets of the target. You can use this ability to easily obtain items or money from monsters. Note that the loot that would normally be received by killing the monster will not be taken away. Pick Pocket is a chance to loot from the monster.
The category also features “Sap” to sleep monsters. You can use it to separate a group of two monsters for example. Sneak behind them and use Sap to sleep while one of them then just kill the monster awake and finish with the one who is asleep. The Rogue is very effective to control groups using Sap by putting a monster just woke out of action. Stay stealthy and just continue to use Sap on coming monsters. As a group, this can be a huge advantage and may allow a group to be very efficient since the Rogue reduced the number of monsters.
You can find complete list of skills within your WoW Rogue Leveling Guide.
Typical example of a fight with a Rogue
Sneak up behind the monster for example using Stealth. Perform a Backstab, Ambush, Cheap Shot or a DOT on the monster. Then start the fight. Start using Sinister Strike to accumulate CP. Free them with a DoT, a final movement of direct damage as Eviscerate or use Slice and Dice. Repeat to build CPs with Sinister Strike. Always perform a movement as soon as you have enough energy, unless you accumulate more energy for more powerful skills. A common mistake among novice Rogues is to not enough use his skills.
